Forgotten Drink shares the history of drinks, with and without alcohol, and recipes adapted from period sources. Questions, corrections, accessibility issues or copyright concerns are welcome at info@forgottendrink.com.

Before you mix

Read the full recipe first. Scaling changes ingredient quantities, not glassware, ice, times or instructions. Converted amounts may be rounded, and some measures stay as written. US and Imperial measures differ; read labels such as “fl oz” with their context.

Historical recipes are not automatically safe by today’s standards. Check allergens and ingredient labels yourself, and follow current guidance for anything fermented, stored or made with raw eggs. Recipes containing alcohol are for adults of legal drinking age. Please drink responsibly.

Sources, quotations and images

We name our sources and explain where a recipe has been adapted. Period quotations come from public-domain editions, checked against the page scans. Historical stories can be uncertain, and we say so where the evidence is thin. We do not claim tasting or kitchen testing unless stated.

Period illustrations are scans from public-domain books and are credited in their captions. Other images are illustrations and may differ from the drink you make.

Using our content

You may save or print our recipes for personal use. Please link to a page rather than republishing it, and ask before reusing our text. Public-domain source texts remain free for everyone; our adaptations, commentary and arrangement are ours.

Do not overload the service or attempt to access private systems. We aim for accurate, useful information but cannot guarantee identical results. Nothing here removes rights or excludes liability where the law does not allow it.
